Frequently Asked Questions

FRP Rebars and Meshes
Can rebars be bent on site?+
No. FRP is a thermoset material. Once cured, it cannot be deformed without damage. All bent elements must be supplied pre-formed from the factory, with minimum bend radius rb ≥ 3φ (NBR 17201-1:2025).
Does FRP directly replace metallic bars, size for size?+
It depends on the product. For FRP rebars and meshes used as concrete reinforcement, direct replacement is not applicable. Conventional steel (CA-50, CA-60 and CA-70) has significantly different characteristics from FRP bars — particularly the elastic modulus. Structural design must therefore follow ABNT NBR 17196:2025, which establishes specific design criteria for FRP-reinforced concrete structures. Zentor dowel bars for industrial floor joints, however, allow direct replacement at the same diameter and length as the CA-25 steel dowels they replace. This equivalence is backed by laboratory tests, technical reports and over 2 million square meters of industrial floors built with Zentor — proving equivalent load transfer performance at joints.
Zentor — Dowel Bars
Do Zentor bars require grease?+
Not necessarily. Bond strength tests demonstrate that Zentor values are well below the maximum bond strength limits established by ASTM D8444-24, meaning the use of grease is not mandatory. However, project drawings, details and specifications must always be observed, as grease may be required depending on the specific conditions of each project.
Spalla Glass — GFRP Geogrid
What service life gain does Spalla provide?+
Keeping the same thickness, service life can be tripled and the maintenance interval can increase by 20–25%. Alternatively, the new layer thickness can be reduced by up to 25% while maintaining performance.
Hexor HPU — MBBR Biocarrier
What is Hexor's specific area for design?+
2,500 m²/m³ — conservative design value. UFABC characterization estimated ~10,659 m²/m³ by SEM. We use 2,500 m²/m³ as a safety margin until the pilot test (Phase 2) is completed.
Can Hexor be used in retrofit over activated sludge?+
Yes — as IFAS configuration. Hexor is inserted into the existing activated sludge reactor, which maintains its sludge recirculation. The biofilm on the media treats additional load without replacing the process.
How many days does biofilm formation take?+
Typically 15 to 30 days, thanks to the foam's immediate hydrophilicity. Conventional rigid media take 60 to 150 days.
FachaFibra
Does FachaFibra eliminate the need for mechanical fixing?+
Yes. The mesh is embedded directly in the rendering mortar, eliminating the need for mechanical fixing.
